I recieved an old HP Pavilion Dv4125us laptop. I wanted to upgrade the cpu on it. it currently has a Intel Pentium M 725 / 1.6 GHz in it . What is the fastest cpu upgrade available for it? Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

The best CPU you could use is Pentium M 765 (2,1 GHz); there is also the M 780 (2,26 GHz), but it's a FSB 533 part, so i would guess it is not supported.
Try to add more RAM and a faster/larger HDD, it's the best you can do for your laptop.
I searched around and can not find parts or any information for that dv4125 in regards to the cpu.

It is often difficult to upgrade a laptop cpu.
Many laptops have the cpu directly soldered to the board.
If the laptop cpu is removable (socketed) then you are still limited to a very select few cpus that the OEM built the bios to support.
Then there is the fact that HP built many computers back then to have a whitelist for hardware so any hardware not on that list will not work (HP was hit with a class-action suit over these anti-competitive practices).
