So my sister has an HP Pavillion Dv6 and was complaining to me that it was getting too hot, so I went ahead and installed HWmonitor and saw that when the cpu is IDLE it's reaching temperatures between 80-90. When only under 20% load it reaches its max temp, 105, then throttles back down. She told me one time while watching videos it blue screened and told her the processor overheated.

So, I doubt this is a software issue. If it's hardware, I'm willing to fix it. Any ideas guys?

It's an HP Pavilion dv6 584037-001

It's got an i5 580M.

dust build up causes this. Try

a) blowing canned air (buy at Target/Walmart) into the outlet vents.
b) opening it up and glowing the dust out of the fan, heatsink and wherever else.

My last laptop I got the temps down 20C by doing that after 3 years of carrying it around.

I would be careful when doing this from the outside, since blowing it inward has the potential to push lint and such things into the fan and cause it to stop.
