I used a Legacy Boot mode to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on this HP laptop. I used Win 8.1 and AMD to install all hardware drivers. I updated the system to the latest BIOS version on the HP website. All current Windows updates have been installed. Though I'm basically ready for the apps, I found that no matter what I do, the laptop will not shut down properly. I know that this HP system was built for Windows 8. However, the owner wanted the laptop to have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit instead of Win 8.x. I even uninstalled Win7 and reinstalled it...but no luck. I googled the problem and have come up with no real definitive help. Can anyone direct me to the right solution. I would greatly appreciate you help. Thank you.

Hi

Not sure this will help....

I have created a shortcut on my desktop to ShutDown

This is calling the \windows\system32\shutdown.exe with /f to force /s shutdown /t 1 in 1 second

shutdown.exe /f /s /t 1

Nowhere near elegant, but effective.

The shutdown help lists alternatives.

Thank you AC13044 for your very quick reply to my plea forhelp.

I tried your suggestion, but it did not cure the problem. I was certainly hoping and praying that it would work. The Pavilion G7-2223nr did shut down but after a minute or two, the laptop booted back into Windows 7. Again, thank you for your suggestion.

Since nothing worked, I found that this HP laptop was built as a Home Premium model. Reportedly, the problem was mobo related according to an HP tech. So, I trashed the laptop.

RESOLVED!
