I was doing repairs to my HP PAVILION P7-1142 and somehow misplaced my notes on where the front panel USB / SD-Media cables go - USB1, USB2, etc.. I was able to figure out the Audio and Front panel power / LED headers, but the USB ones have strange headers with more pins than the cable plugs. So I need information on where each cable goes and the orientation of the plug like, say, ‘end of plug with red wire goes to pin one’ --- (especially for the single row 4 pin plug with a filled 5th pin)
Normally it is no problem as the USB plugs and headers are keyed to match, but in this case – no such luck.

I am attaching a link to photos of my cable-ends and headers. Apparently, the P7-1154 has a similar configuration. So anyone with info on the P7-1142 or P7-1154 should be able to help me ( if I'm not mistaken): https://1drv.ms/f/s!Ah4hgvy8W5LIizsCm-I7VYE92XGv

Thanks ahead of time for any help!

HP PAVILION P7-1142 NEED HELP RE-CONNECTING FRONT PANEL USB CABLES TO MOTHERBOARD HEADERS

I finally got this one solved.

For the 6 pin plug I used the most logical orientation without offsetting the plug on the header --- this left a single pin unused to the right of the plug. I verified it works by turning on the pc and observing that now in the “Computer” window several ‘removable’ drives now appeared.

For the 10 pin plug I again used the most logical orientation without offsetting the plug on the header, but I left the 2 pin ‘spdif’ header disconnected since the wires were both black and hence one can’t tell which is + and which is ground. – No big deal since I don’t use spdif.
But I did do a voltage test on the front USB before...
You can follow the diagram here:

and align the pins per the diagram(which I found here]).

Thanks, Lutfij for your research. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I didn't know that my alert was coming to a less used email. .....Anyhow, I have this info too. I just find it strange that if I align the 6 pin plug I still have an empty pin left over on F_USB3.
On the other hand neither the F_USB1 nor F_USB2 headers are keyed like the 10 pin plug is. So orientation is not a sure thing. Any thoughts on that?

But I did do a voltage test on the front USB before plugging a device in. (Powered up the PC with hard drive disconnected) I simply used an USB cable plugged it into the port with bare wires on the opposite end and checked the red and black wires for 5V. That checked out. So hooked the HDD back up, booted the PC to windows and stuck in a flash drive and voila! It worked.

So thanks for working with me on this.
