HP Pavilion Slimline S3700Y Will Not POST

First of all, I have read the product reviews on this website for a while, but for some reason I never bothered with the forum. Since this is my first post, constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks!

Exactly one week ago at the time of this post I turned on my computer as normal. The light came on, the dvd drive spun a few times, and nothing happened. After trying all of the display outputs, I took the pc to my workbench and, upon further inspection, discovered that a capacitor had broken. I sent off for a new motherboard and received it today. I installed it without any problems and started the pc. The same thing happened with one difference: the cpu fan became unbearably loud. After trying all of the display outputs again I unplugged the pc again and did everything this thread said to do and also reset the CMOS battery & checked all of the wiring. Finally, I reseated the CPU, which quieted the fan but did little else. Thus my question to you, good people of this forum, is what should I do next to solve this problem?

remove the hd5450 and use the onboard ten see if video come on the otehr thing the bubbled capacitor could have been made from overpower in the system so other parts could have fail .

Your PC specs list a 160 watt power supply.

Recommended power supply for HD 5450 is 400 watts.

Since that kind of power supply doesn't fit a Slimline, you can see why any modifications are very limited by the slim size.

Unfortunately, removing the video card had no effect, and bearing in mind what Calvin posted it might be wise to leave it out. I don't see any problems with the power supply or the motherboard (the light comes on and the fans spin). Could it be the CPU?

that could be since motherboard blow do you have a way to test the ram and the hdd if they did not suffer also from that motherboard fail.

Hi everyone, thanks for responding. I decided to "go with my gut" and replace the CPU. Everything is working just fine now. Thanks again!

since you have to replace motherboard and cpu i would suggest to use a surge protector between the wall outlet and the computer to avoid further power overvoltage .
