HP Pavillion Laptop to Dell Monitor HD

Hi,
I have bought HP Pavillion DV series note book in 2008 that has only VGA port, no HDMI port. Since the HP LCD screen has some problem recently, I decided to connect to a large monitor. So I have bought Dell 22 inches monitor last year 2013.

When I connect my HP laptop VGA port to Dell monitor VGA, the picture looks perfect, no issues in that. But one of my friend has told me since the Dell Monitor has HDMI port, I can enjoy watching movies in HD.

Please suggest me how do I connect my HP laptop VGA port to Dell monitor HDMI port?

VGA output is "analog", whereas HDMI output is digital. Therefore if your laptop has no HDMI port, you can't do it.

If your laptop was a desktop PC you could simply install a graphics card which has HDMI output, but you obviously can't do that on a laptop.

There are VGA-to-HDMI adapters available but they won't allow you to watch movies in HD from your laptop, for that you need an HDMI output port on your laptop so that no adapter is required - just a regular HDMI cable.
