hp pc upgrade

hi im not very great with prebuilts and i have a few questions
first this is the pc im upgradeing for a friend http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02743409
i have a 350w psu and a r7 250 that im placing in it now my question is can i use a am3+ motherboard and a amd fx 6300 in this system? and will i have to get a new version of windows or something or is it fine and i dont need anything else? also what is the best amd+ motherboard that is less than 75$ that would work with this? and is the amd fx 8300 a huge upgrade from the 6300 that is worth it

this is my friend's work/school pc the only games ever played on it is minecraft and bejeweled
and for a system of intel over amd the issue is first intel is more expensive. and second if we used a intel skylake platform it would need ddr4 ram when we have the ddr3 aready

Go for haswell, like an i3 4130 with a H81 mobo

one question is the 4160 and 4170 any better because they are both 15$ cheaper
