I just purchased an HP Photosmart 7960. it is installed on a P3 950 running
Win2k pro connected via USB.. My computer is reading the printer as a
"removable drive" that I noticed when I clicked My Computer. When I go to
turn the printer off, I get the same warning that I get as if I try to
remove my flash drive without first "safely ejecting" it.
Is this normal for this printer? I'm sure it has something to do with the
fact that the printer has built in card readers...
Any info appreciated!
Thanks!

I have same printer but using WinMe. I don't see it as a 'removable
drive'.
When clicking on Properties of the printer, it says under Details tab,
"Print to following port:USB001 (Virtual Printer Port for USB)"

Yes it's normal. I recall reading that there is an option in the printer
or disk settings to disable the warning messages, but it's not a big
deal.

Yep, I use my HP Photomate as a card reader on my computer, so I would imagine
the 7960 would offer it as well.
