HP Proliant DL380 G6 Server

So I can pick up the server above for about $150. Dual Xeon E5506 with 4x4gb DDR3. Want to run a SSD for the OS and then fill the rest of the bays with 1TB drives. will be used to store pictures from IP cameras using Blue Iris.

Instead of dropping $500 or more on a Windows server license I figured I would install a copy of windows 7 pro x64. This is where I run into trouble, Ive tried google but the only thing that comes up is HP's forums and a lot of the post just end with HP employees saying no you cant install win7 on the server.

The most ive found is if windows 7 installs to use the 2008 drivers to get everything to work. Im hoping someone in Tomshardware land has done this and has any advice to get win7 to load and work correctly.

windows 7 should install but you will not have the things you want like nas accessibility or any other server type applications. https://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/HP-DL-380-G5-and-Windows-7-or-8/td-p/6004863

Also its worth testing it if you do wight about it some where.

And did it come with a driver disk?

I don't need any of the server functions. It just needs to run a program called Blue Iris that controls 12 IP cameras. When motion is detected it takes a picture and stores it in a folder.

Right now I have everything reporting to my work computer with 7 4TB drives with 3 drives partitioned for the lesser traffic cameras.

Work computer is a 2600k, 16Gb ram and bogs down a little during the day when a few of the cameras get a lot of motion. Figured since this server was so cheap, cant build a computer this cheap, it would be easy to offload the camera function to it.

I haven't bought anything yet, trying to do all the leg work before hand so I don't buy it and then find out I need to buy a server license.

Blue iris will not un on Linux/Ubuntu and has small issues with server OS's
