Question HP Proliant DL385 Gen6 is not accepting a second CPU ?

I have an HP Proliant DL385 server that is not accepting a second CPU in the empty slot.

Its an AMD Opteron CPU. After adding a second one the machine powers on but is unresponsive. No BIOS.

I have checked the obvious: matching cpus, all fans installed and working, supported cpus (they are exactly what is in slot 1 now)

This is the server in question, he adds the cpu but does not discuss getting the server to accept it. Is there a process for adding a CPU on a gen 6 or something AMD? I have done this with a G8 with XEON processors without issue.

1st thing is that both processors must be of the same stepping. You can't mix/match.

I had seen similar, but I see no mention of stepping, thank you, this was the issue.

Are the 2 stepping codes in case someone encounters this. I swapped a cpu so they matched and I am past post.
