I can't get my drivers to load for this scanner under XP. At about step
three in the install new hardware wizard I get an ominous message saying
that my driver is not signatured for XP and if I proceed the end of the
world may be at hand. This despite downloading two updates for my driver
from HP, both dealing with XP.

On a related note, is the HP tech email support thrpugh the HP wedbsite just
a scam, or has anyone ever received an answer?

I've always had good luck with the email support. It's taken a couple of
days, but I've always gotten help.

Rick:

Two notes. I've got a HP 3300C scanner, and I've never been able to get the
HP scanner drivers/software to load correctly under Windows XP. I tried a
number of things including installing both the downloadable version of the
drivers and the ones I ordered on CD. After weeks of trying to get this to
work, I finally gave up and went back to the drivers included with Windows
which seem to work fine but are much less functional. Later when I bought
my next desktop, I got an HP Pavilion which I was sure would work with the
XP scanner drivers, but I had the same problem.

Regarding the tech support available from HP, both the telephone and e-mail
support are basically worthless. On the telephone, it's unusual to get
someone who can speak English, and when I do, I usually know more than they
do. When I use e-mail, I usually get a response that is not even related to
the question I asked.

Your experiences are consistent with my rather subjective observations that both
quality and quantity (number of products supported) of HP scanner and printer
drivers have fallen off with XP. It seems like your only recourse is to use the
built-in XP drivers, and to live with the limitations they impose... Ben Myers

End of the world? Try to continue and it will likely work. I have seen this
happen on more than a few occasions. It only means the driver in question
has not gone through MS XP' certification process. Almost all drivers that
work under W2K will also work wit XP, even with that caveat. My current
scanner does precisely as you describe except I merely finished the job. My
scanner works great.

Worth nothing. I have sent several emails and have not heart anything. I
sent several emails to them months ago.
