I still don't think I get what he's trying to say..
If someone else buys it, HP is still gonna support the other company's products. It's too vague. Someone care to explain?

it's odd, but i'm hoping this whole fire sale business was just a stunt. a lot of people have been exposed to WebOS, and a lot of people fell in love with it... go to the engadget articles, people are favoriting WebOS over android and iOS, there is a LOT of hope for it. just didn't have proper exposure

hell, the TP's are selling close to regular price on ebay because of this whole debacle. it's really crazy, i wish i got one. toilet porn sounds so sweet

There have been a number of incorrect stories saying that HP is quitting the PC business. Let me be absolutely clear in saying that at no stage has HP said it is quitting the PC business.

Awwwwww... =((( Just today I had to service an HP laptop and let me tell you, HP takes first prize for the amount of pre-installed bloatware! Too bad they're here to stay!

They should just spin off their personal computer business and call it Compaq.
So long as they stop filling their computers with bloatware that slows them down to 1/2 their potential speed it'll work out fine.

HP makes the crappiest PCs and Laptops. Even their printers are crap now. They want to be like IBM - servers. Too bad they are not hardware experts like IBM. Even though Lenovo owns Thinkpad now, those Thinkpad still rocks. Probably the beginning of the end for HP.

1/2? Exaggeration does not do you any benefit, to be blunt. I bought an HPE H8-1010T CTO from HP recently and while it DID have some bloatware, it was NOT slowing down by anywhere NEAR 1/2.

Maybe by...... 1/1000th, not counting startup times.

Buy a PC from HP today and it won't be supported tomorrow. That's the bottom line. Nobody will trust HP again and no company should even consider buying its products.

[citation][nom]ajcroteau[/nom]HP computers are complete garbage... you couldn't give me a free HP Laptop/Desktop...[/citation]
While I generally agree, I saw an HP yesterday running an A8 proc, and with the bloatware removed already, and it was one sexy little machine. No more textured touch pad, no more obvious heat bottlenecks, plenty of connectivity, and the lady who owned it claimed she gets about 8+ hours on a charge with light/normal use.
Not saying I would go out and purchase one... but they have improved enough over the last year that I would take one if it was free.

I believe he is saying that HP computers will continued to be produced and supported, whether by HP, a spun off Hp PC business or a sold HP PC business.

I believe they should really leave the PC market as their computers and laptops have been all crappy. In the last year's survey they are in the top 2 of the worst PC/laptop/notebook manufacturers whose products goes back to warranty repair and that does not spared mine. One of my netbook which is an HP Mini suddenly went black which prompted me to search online for the problem and to my surprise I saw a lot of people having the same problem with their HP notebooks. I sent it to a laptop repair shop and to my surprise, the techs show me their shelves are mostly HPs. I quickly understood why most of the HP Pavillion desktop PCs I encountered to use at the office are the ones having frequent blues screens. HP excels in the imaging arena but not in PC market.

I actually wish that someone within HP or PSG could buy the PC business from HP but continue to use the HP name.

That being said I think this clown shoe HP CEO Leo Apotheker is an ass. Heck he was FIRED from his last job at SAP! Why couldn't he have waited to announce the sale until they found a buyer. Total incompetence, HP needs to fire the CEO his exec officers and the BoD ASAP!

I hear lots of posters bashing HP PCs but I have used them and others brands for years and the bloatware WAS a problem in the past for HP but not too much today. The reliability has always been pretty good except for a few years during the mid-late 2000s, now things are back on track, and over all the service and support are really as good as it gets for OEM not to mention the excellent warranty that cover as many as four years with a tech in home fixing the issues for only a few dollars more. HP PCs are a good value for most users but they are not intended for hard core gamers of course.

I bet most of you bashing them have never even owned or used one that wasn't abused or filled with junk by an incompetent user/owner.

Yeah lets confuse people HP even more. They did indeed say they were leaving the personal pc business but not the buisness sector of the pc business. Anyone catch that? So what this means is no more pc for sale in the consumor sector. The only pc you will see for sale is made to order through the buiness sector online.

It's irrelavent what they do to the HP PC division at this point. What matters is the perception. I'm a consultant. Most (I'd say all but you would all say I was making it up) of my clients have basically told me they were switching brands just to be on the safe side. It turns out they have little to no brand loyalty. They just bought HP because it was "a" standard. Like buying IBM used to be in some shops. Some will try Dell. It's interesting to see so many clients bulk buy iPads and deploy them across the board to sales and so on. I'm seeing a lot of lost PC sales going on. I think HP is seeing that as well. Some clients bought Blackberry's tablette. All of them are now evaluation the iPad after they realized it wasn't doing what the iPad does. They all assumed it would have the same basic "usefull" apps available. Guess I'll stick to working with the servers. Dell, IBM and, who knows, Microsoft branded ones if they buy HP's division. Actually, they probably wouldn't go for the servers. I totally see a Microsoft store selling MS PCs. Wish Linux would pull an iOS like OS out of their collective butts. LOL

what is this for UK only, they are still strong in the US. People still buy HP pc/ laptop all the time. I think their personal PC blows in the consumer dept. But I have worked in two corporate firm and they have HP computers. They are actually very fast machine there.

Even if we did sell of our PC division, it is only ~17% of our total revenue and has VERY low profit margins, so no, I do not believe this is the beginning of the end for HP. We are very strong in our enterprise market.

Also, yes, there is alot of "bloatware" those pieces of software lower the price of the laptops and desktops everyone buys, so pay a lower price and remove everything, or pay a higher price and have it removed out of the box. Thats just how it works.

Dont we all build our own PC's on toms anyways?

So the PSG DOES make a profit? So why would they need to get rid of it if it brings in profit and makes HP the most visible computer company in the world next to IBM?

The visibility ALONE is worth keeping PSG, so if there is some profit in it seems ludicrous to get rid of it!

Still think that Leo and his exec officers and BoD need to be sent packing ASAP.

I wish the Hewlett and Packard family members would try and gain control of the company again. Makes me sick to see the mishandling of things over the past decade or so.

HP built its success on hardware...not that they can't spread into other areas if they are profitable but the way they handled the PSG situation is a MAJOR DEBACLE AND SHOWS COMPLETE INCOMPETENCE!

I am a pc repair technician and I can tell you from first hand experience that Hp's hardware designs are garbage from inefficient cooling to shipping recalled Nvidia GPUs and then lying about it to customers they suck then I have heard horror stories about HP tech support trying to sell people new HPs when they have to send their laptop back for service instead of honoring the warranty. HP just needs to go away I mean come on Web OS was a viable product and they just gave up HP sucks at life...

After seeing how fast the tablet moves at $99, HP should spin off their tablet business and call it 'PALM'.
