Hi Everyone,

I want to thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I have a Z620 workstation that I love. It uses a raid card that I would like to get rid of (to free up the Pcie slot for some more memory).

I know the MB has AHCI slots. which I think, I could plug my HDs into.

  1. is this even possible?
  2. How would I go about editting BIOS to tell the computer to bypass the raid card.
Am I missing something?

Thank!

Make sure the disk controller is set to ACHI + RAID mode. Regardless I think the drives would show up in the BIOS.

If you had a RAID array configured on that card, it may not be transferable to another controller without a complete wipe.

Thank you! How can I tell if there is a RAID configured on the card?

Also, how can I change the disk controller?

Hi All,

I figured it out. After reading the manual, I realized the order of the sata ports. I also went into bios and changed the setting to RAID + AHCI. Everything works (for now).

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to reply.
