So I was trying to do some comparisons of gaming for latency/fps having HPET off/on, but then I found HPET was off by default. Isn't it supposed to be on by default?

Secondly, when I do turn it on then reboot, Windows 11 became very sluggish to the point of being unusable ?

When HPET is off look in Task Manager and Resource Monitor to get a sense of what all is running on the system, what resources are being used, to what extent ( % ), and what is using any given resource.

Then do the same with HPET on.

Look for what, if anything, changed.

With the system becoming very sluggish there is a strong likelihood that you will spot some potential culprit.

Or at least the affected component(s).
