Hello,

In the wake of the Sasser virus I have been updating
our workstations with the MS patch to fix the
vulnerability. I have run the patch on a HP machine that
had HP Lock installed on it and now the machine will not
boot. The machine is running NT 4.0 SP 6a. The error is
defined in KB Q311860.

Thank you,

Sean Barton

I'm not sure you can recover the non-bootable machine
without reinstalling NT, but the first thing I do with an
HP machine is to REMOVE HPLOCK and anything having to do
with toptools. This is on the advice of HP support techs.
Also, instead of using the MS "too late as usual" patch, a
firewall and blocking executable attachments in email is a
much better defense against this and all future exploits.
