I am considering buying this vga cooler for my new gtx. Watercooling is out of the question so I am just wanting a quiet solution with good cooling. I was planning on pairing this with a scythe 92mm fan. Is this cooler worth the price? Is the stock 8800gtx loud enough to justify needing to replace it? I am less than thrilled with the stock mid 70C load temps the gtx gets and have read reviews that this cooler has the potential to drop temps 20C or so.

Technically, you are asking a question that only you could answer. The HR-03 is a good cooler and is capable of cooling as much as even 30C off of load temps on an 8800 GTX if lapped. Is the abilty to cool it that much worth the money to you? As for the noise level, again, that is yet another question that only you can answer.

I will say, though, that I personally recommend the HR-03 for a good quality air cooler. The combo you have listed is a good one.

Please let us know what you decide to do. I am interested on what temps you get if you do change.
