"HTPC" at around $500

I don't have a strict budget but I'd like to keep it around $500 if possible. I plan on "cutting cable", so I just want to build a strong HTPC to watch HD movies, streaming TV, and use as a general purpose PC when needed with no gaming. A smaller form factor would be appreciated for easy transporting when needed as well as it not being bulky if I intend on putting it in a living room. It doesn't necessarily have to be a mini itx either.

A question I have is about the HDD. if I go the SSD and HDD route that I commonly see here in the systems section, will that limit me in anyway when loading HD movies from an HDD?

Also, I don't need an OS. I don't have any blurays, but I'd like to have at least a dvd burner. What do you guys recommend for a mouse/keyboard setup for streaming?
