Hello to all my techies out there,
I want to build myself a htpc for my 1080p TV, I have a fx6300 left over processor as well as 8gb of ddr3 ram. The TV is in my room and I think a 6300 would heat up too much. What would you recommend as a build? I don't need a overkill build. Just minimum no optical drive or anything as such. Also I am unaware of current MOBOs with intergrated graphics. A little help would go a long way! :)
Thank you to any who take the time to answer me. :)

I think 300$ would be sufficient, if possible including the fx6300 and/or the 8gb ddr3 ram but if you say there is a better cool/silent build then go for it.

This should be fine. Don't use the FX 6300.

Solution

mind you that is a cheap build that will get the job done but would you really want a PC that big for a HTPC?

Buy a smaller case, get a micro-ATX motherboard and you've got a smaller PC. This is just one way to go about the situation, doesn't mean it's the only one.

Sell the 6300/DDR3.

The G5400 is a improved version of the hyper-threaded Pentiums.

1. Exactly what is improved in the G5400? A 10% speed improvement for a lot of more money. Only thing that seems to have improved is Intel's profits.
2. That power supply is the stuff of nightmares.
3. You are exceeding the budget by 20% for a slightly better processor, more expensive platform, and a horrible power supply.

Well the OP is looking for a HTPC, not a ATX or MATX build. Also while the PSU isn't the greatest it's enough to power the system so unless they want a dedicated GPU the Seasonic is fine. The money gained from selling the 6300 and DDR3 would be enough to put this build under $300 which is within the OP's budget. And with a newer platform it would allow for better upgrades such as the 8100/8400 if the extra CPU performance is required.

I dont see annissue re using the 6300 personally.

'Heat up too much' ? No it wont at all, ypu can take an fx 6300 right down to about 30w power draw under low loads.

That said if you want mitx then something new is innorder because simply there are no mitx am3+ socket boards.

Somethimg like this though covers you if you ever change to a 4k screen & will also allow some decent quality gaming if you change your mind about the intended use.

Or dump the cooler & drop it in an matx Silverstone htpc case & youve got sething around the size of a standalone bluray player.
