HTPC Sound Card?

This is my system for HTPC:

2.4Ghz P4 (single core)

2GB RAM

Soon getting HD 3650

250GB HDD

I'm planning to get a DIamond XtremeSOund 7.1 sound card, can this card output to a 7.1 Yamaha Receiver with nice sound quality? Deal is over fast at local store, lol and need URGENT help. Here is the card:

If the Yamaha receiver has a coax S/PDIF input, you should be good to go.

I'm no audiophile, so I can't really say, but I do enjoy my system. I have this card going to my cheapo receiver and have no complaints.

Thanks but that card has 192Khz audio which is supposed to be crystal clear, just wondering if the max on the Yamaha receiver 92Khz and the max on the card is 92Khz is it going to be clear?

Hi there.

1) why get the old 3650 when the 4xxx series is cheaper and better?

2) Do you ever plan on listening to Blu Rays? I ask because this card can't play DTS-HD or DD TrueHD. Also, just look at the reviews for that card on newegg - over 25% had very poor reviews of it.

The bluegears looks pretty nice and of good quality. Probably the number 1 thing to look at is SNR. The higher, the better. Looking at the Diamond, it doesn't have Optical out and it does not have the internal connector to go to the Ati card so the audio can pass thru HDMI.
This card looks great with plenty of connections, including Optical(Optical is much better than Digital Coax)

Not much audio is encoded at 192KHz and only stereo can be played at 192KHz. Even DTS Master HD & DD TrueHD are sampled at 48KHz so don't worry about 192 vs 96.

This system is AGP based, hence the HD 3650 and the HDMI has built in 5.1 audio, i just want my music to get to my receiver. Do you think a receiver can take the HDMI signal from the HDMI and spread the audio across the speacker setup?

The video card still needs an audio source, onboard audio or add-in sound card for the audio to pass thru HDMI.
There is no way for us to know what your receiver can do. Does it have HDMI In and Out? Can it decode DolbyD and DTS 5.1, 7.1?
