Huawei Router to Asus Router

Hello there !

I just moved and the ISP gave me a HUAWEI EchoLife HG8245H but compared to my Asus RT-N18U it's slow. It's twice as slow in download speed and 20 times slower in upload speed. I've went from 900 mbs to 500 mbs in download and from 450+ mbs to 20-30 mbs in upload. The wireless is also slower.

Before moving I had another Huawei router but that one was simpler; it did not have wireless. It was connected to a fiber cable and it had another CAT5e cable connected to the Asus router. And the Asus worked perfectly fine.

But now I can't connect the Asus to the Huawei. I've used the same technique as before.

But the Asus just doesn't want to connect.

In the setup wizard i've tried both things with the same result: "Disconnected".
If I select NO and then on Automatic IP it gives me a timeout.

What can I do ? Thank you !

You may have to ask the ISP to do this. From what I can tell this device contains a ONT. Many times the ISP restricts what you can do with that type of devices. You should be able to call them and ask them to make it into a modem only with no router function.

From what I've read, bridge mode is using wireless to connect to another router and I don't want that because the wireless is so bad and slow on the HUAWEI so it will be pointless. I don't want to expand my Wi-Fi range by using 2 routers; I just want to use the ASUS as the router, but I need the HUAWEI in a pass-through configuration because the ASUS doesn't have a Fiber Optic port.

I want to connect them via an Ethernet Cable. I want the HUAWEI to stop being a wireless router and just be a damn bridge because it's such a lazy wireless router.

Also, it seems I can't find the "Modem Mode" on the HUAWEI.

EDIT: Actually, now I can't even find "Bridge Mode" on the HUAWEI. I barely have any settings. I think I have a basic account with no power over the settings.

I will try to do that.

I've searched google far and wide and I've realised that I have a basic user interface with limited settings, so I can't do anything advanced until I get a hold of someone from the ISP.

But I can't do that because I don't have access to those kind of settings.

I am also interested in putting my Huawei HG8425H in bridge mode. I know how to do this and I have access to the settings but unfortunately I do not have the ISP password and after downloading the config file and using other methods to extract the password from the router, I realized the password is a hash. The ISP will not give me this info. Any idea on how to get this password?

Thank you for the reply. I called them and they refuse to give me this info unfortunately. Is there any other way to have my Asus RT-AC68U with wan access to aicloud
, downloadmaster and the other functions of this router enabled without bridging?

They won't GIVE you the password. They will just remotely access the router and use the password to put it in bridge mode.

In most cases you can just put the asus router behind their router and it will perform fine. The only concern would be double nat but that mostly affect console game players.
