Question Huge drops while playing Atomic Heart and some other games all of a sudden

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and wanted to get some help from you, hopefully.

So I haven't had any trouble with the games I play for 3 years. Everything was perfectly fine, I'm also working for a game developer company and been using my own pc for some tests.
I started playing Atomic Heart with gamepass and everything was perfect, no lag no nothing. But when I tried to continue playing it at the start of this month, it was all stutters. So for a month now I haven't been able to play the game cause it is unplayable, I can't walk, I can't fight.. There was so much drop that it froze for a few seconds.

So I did some diagnostics, I used Prime95 for cpu and memory stress test, Furmark for gpu, also used Windows's own diagnostic tools and repairs like Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool, tried sfc /scannow etc. Updated every single driver I have. Also tested my HDD and SSD. And everything looks good except while Furmark was working we saw some stutters on the sides of the video, it's definitely there every few seconds. They are mostly 15 seconds apart. So when I checked the gpu from MSI window at the same time I realised there was this drops on Gpu usage. While it's working %100 or %70, it suddenly drops to %0. We're guessing this is the problem. At first we thought it was power related but now I don't know.

My system is like this:
Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 (temp goes up to 60° at most)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600x with stock fan (during some games and stress test the temp goes up to 95° but no stutters while it is at this temp)
Corsair Vengeance rgb pro 3200 mhz 2x8 gb
B550-A PRO motherboard (no issues at all)
Corsair 750 w psu
Windows 10.

The sad thing is I haven't had any problem for 3 years and now I'm just unable to play any game without drops. Btw the fps drop is almost 50%. Oh and my monitors are Samsung 27" G7 1440p and LG Ultragear 1080p 27". Both have 144 hz refresh rate. I don't use Gsync anymore cause it was causing the monitors to restart every few minutes.

Something else we realized is that sometimes when a game is open at the background and I move the file explorers around they stutter and take few ms to change places.

So what I'm asking is what could cause this huge drop? Could this really be my GPU or could this power usage going down to 0 for a while be caused by something else? How can I pinpoint the issue?

to have a look what the problem could be:
run userbenchmark.com and post the http link of your result, e.g. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/28977730

Reset the BIOS by jumper clrCMOS or JBAT or similar (eventually you will have to set the boot priority correctly after that)

check windows integrity
open the command prompt as administrator and type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

clean boot

check the memory by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)

run the RAM @2133MHz to check if it happens then too

check the hard drive for errors with its manufacturer´s tool and if available, update the firmware

use ddu uninstaller and reinstall the latest graphics driver

These are the userbenchmark results, seems taht my pc is performing worse than some of the same systems, don't know why. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/64622008

in bios enable XMP

Enabled XMP still for some reason while testing with Userbenchmark fps drops to 14 during cpu test 🙁 drivers are also all up to date. Are the only things left to do are memtest and bios reset or just a clean boot? This is the last benchmark after enabling XMP: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/64622918

Which drive do you have the game installed on? I also have to wonder since the 980 drive is performing well below expectations if you perhaps have it too full? Anything over 85% of it's actual capacity is not recommended.

Regarding the GPU, which is also running below expectations, have you been monitoring it's temps and usage while playing? You can do this with MSI Afterburner set to show such stats onscreen while playing.

Well the game was installed on SSD, I also have games installed on HDDs but they all perform the same. It may be full, only 110 gb of space is left on that SSD. Since it's 1 tb, appro. 10% left in it. I should clear it.

Other than that, I've done another Furmark and I can't tell you how much it stutters, I can't believe it. It's getting worse. In a test of 1440p the fps was 57 at most. In the games I usually get 60 with RTX on and the settings are Ultra. I've tried checking the GPU on some apps including MSI and found out that it's usage drops to 0 from time to time and that is when the game lags, and Furmark stutters. I have no idea why this happens. The temp is good but the drop to 0 is concerning.

Could my GPU be broken or something?

The drive is definitely too full. A 1TB drive is more like 931 GB ACTUAL space, which is why you must go by what This PC lists it's total space as. 15% of 931 is 140 GB free space you should have.

Clear up space until you have the recommended 15% for things like defragging, TRIM, and file transfers, then I would run a diagnostic on any drive which has been running too full, as it can be hard on them.

Also, I would not go by synthetic bench tools like Furmark, as they are unrealistically hard on GPUs compared to games.

The usage issue could be caused by the GPU waiting for the drive in games where textures are streamed by the drive, as it's unlikely to be caused by the CPU's health, and there's no bottleneck CPU to GPU either.

Ok I'll try to clear some of the stuff from my ssd. Hopefully it can increase my pc's performance. CAuse for some reason it's gotten worse, I have so much lagging now. I did a test with userbenchmark again and now even at the staart of the test the fps drops to 1.
Thank you for your reply!
