Hello, I have a Custom build and whenever I play a game or run a benchmark I only get around 1-20 frames. But if I just let the game just idle it'll go up to the 300's. Now maybe that's because I'm just at the main menu but who knows. I mean this can be with the lightest game possible. Like Minecraft, or even Unturned and it'll struggle. I should've gotten an Alienware 😀

Everything I've tried
Removed the graphic card
Clean install all the drivers
Changed Nvida 3d settings

Thanks in Advance.

Yes, that's a reasonable assumption. You may just need to reapply thermal compound(Arctic Silver 5?) and remount it...

Tech support is included in the price of that card.

Nah, Alienware is just a Dell with a fancy wrapper. I'd rather have Aquielisunari's PC. The man can keep what he wants to sell me.

All I can see is a menu screen(you're description). What about during actual gameplay?

Pretty sure EVGA's tech support is 24/7.

I know that you said that you said you changed NV 3D settings, but do they look like this?

Preferred Graphics Processor: GTX 970

Max Pre-Rendered Frames: Use the 3D Application
Multi-Display/Mixed-GPU Acceleration: SINGLE (if using single display)
Power Mgt. Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance
Preferred Refresh Rate: Highest Available

Not sure if this makes a difference or not, but if you've not disabled your Intel 4600 graphics in BIOS that may help as well to avoid any GPU conflict, even though you have the NV panel preference set to the GTX 970... Just a suggestion, unless you like using it.

AND as a note BOTH "UNTURNED" and "MINECRAFT" can be heavy-CPU usage games... Perhaps, lowering some of the graphics settings in those titles and see how they perform.

NOTE: An OC on the GPU may improve things as well. Just make sure to have good air-flow and follow OC guides before proceeding if you go this route; MSI AB. Your CPU is not unlocked ("K" identifier), so OC'ing it may not yield anything, even with a Z97 board.

It's not the graphics because I can put it on ultra and still get the exact same problem on low. It'll say my game is at 100's of FPS but when you actually look at my screen and not the FPS counter it's at about 10FPS lol.

My Benchmark: http://imgur.com/a/Aedmi (The actual FPS was stuttering so hard I don't understand how it got that number.)

This guy has a build that has less ram than I do but we're the same on everything else and he's doing this at ULTRA at a higher FPS than me.

Normal? Yes.

My numbers from this morning?

Have you played any games with that card? Did you use MSI Afterburner to check your CPU & GPU loads and temperatures? Were you also watching your sytem memory(aka VRAM within MSI AB) and RAM usage? Lastly were you watching your memory and core clocks? Were they what you would expect?
Far_Cry4_2016_11_08_22_14_29_543.jpg
Showed me which resources were being used during a gaming session with Far Cry 4. My numbers are where they need to be. My CPU and GPU aren't overheating. My GPU is at 99% which is normal. My CPU isn't at 99% which is a good thing. My core and memory clocks are where they should be. I am not even close to exceeding the total amount of RAM and VRAM my system has. If I was at the limit or very close then I would need to upgrade. You can look up your card.

BTW the first thing you should do when posting a question like this is to post your complete specifications including your PSU.

Anyways, you can look up your card and see where the core and memory clock should be.

What else is running when you get that number in unigine?I use Ccleaner to trim the fat from my PC. I open the program and click on tools and then Start-up. That shows me a list of programs set to autostart when my PC does. Unless they are critical to the operation of Windows you can disable them. Notice I used the word can. Not should. Make the separation between needed and fluff. iTunes? Fluff.

What about Windows? Click start/settings/system/power options. Make sure it is set to High Performance.

I am leaning heavily to your Power Supply Unit. Everything LOOKS okay but once the parts in there go for their food the PSU is stingy resulting in high FPS but low performance for the user. You can go into your BIOS and look for your motherboard's Health Monitor. It may be someplace else but you should be able to find your 12V system voltage. It may say +12V. That number should be at 12V. Maybe .3V over. Unfortunately that number can't be seen during a gaming session. Either your PSU or MAYBE your GFX card. CALL EVGA.

Alright I think I found the problem while I was looking around. My CPU is hitting 80-98 degrees! Could that be causing thermal throttling slowing down my GPU?

Power supply EVGA 500 WATT

And because you wanna know I down-voted because of his comments about turning down the graphics in Unturned lol

We have an identical PSU. Yes, thermal throttling can most certainly be an issue. You should be able to see your CPU & GPU Loads react as your temperature increases. I use a 212 Evo from Cooler Master. Compatible with your CPU.

When I was doing the benchmarks my CPU hit 103 degrees so I stopped it. So all I need to do is buy a new heat-sink and thermal paste to make that temperature drop?

Yes, that's a reasonable assumption. You may just need to reapply thermal compound(Arctic Silver 5?) and remount it. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9PV4M38036&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC-_-pla-_-CPU+Thermal+Paste+%2F+Grease-_-9SIA9PV4M38036&gclid=CI7KtpyVrtMCFQx6fgodE1IFMQ&gclsrc=aw.ds can be used to properly clean off the old thermal compound from the CPU lid and base of the heatsink. Some use 90%(or stronger) isopropyl alcohol instead. A microfiber lint-free cloth can be used. Some apply a small pea sized amount of thermal compound on the lid, place the heatsink over the CPU and lock it down. Others apply a grain of rice sized amount and spread it with a credit card. I used the clamshell my CPU came in to spread it. There are many videos over at Youtube demonstrating the different techniques. More in not better. You are looking to fill the microscopic valleys in each surface which hinders efficient heat transfer. If you are using the stock cooler I do recommend the Evo 212 which keeps my socket 1150 CPU relatively cool. The Cryorig H7 is another possibility.

You need to know the width of your case to be sure the heatsink is not too tall. A case should be at least 8" wide for the 212 and 7.5" for the H7.

Solution

Alright I'll do this today and get back to y'all. Now I don't say this often but aquielisunari I love you.

I have gotten compliments for offering what I have learned, https://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110715122520AAVPwVd and the follow-up https://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110716081819AA7k7T7 where temperatures are concerned . This response however takes the cake. I hope I was able to help and I am waiting to see how your fix worked.
