Huge packet loss

Hello,

So i have been having problems with my internet over the last two weeks, whenever in a game ill suddenly drop from the server around 5-10 times in half an hour and i thought i would head over to pingtest.net & speedtest.net to find out what was wrong.

Well i thought i was okay after the speed test with low latency and good download/upload but when i hit pingtest the big red numbers come up, 50% packet loss if i am lucky re-testing ususally gives me above 80% which is impossible to play games or Skype or anything that requires a constant connection. i called my ISP (Virgin Media) and got someone who seemed to be ignoring what i was saying about packet loss and just saying the usual "have you tried turning it off and back on again" then trying to force feed me a more expensive package.

I've looked online and it seems that i've got the worst package loss that i could find, should i keep ringing my ISP till they actually do something? or could the problem be at my end?

Thanks in advance for the help

Unfortunately, it sounds like you need to keep working with your ISP. Insist on a service call and have some printouts of the packet loss data to show the tech that comes out.

Standard Virgin Media modem and a D-Link DIR 615 router the ISP gave me when they installed the broadband. I've not tried wireless but i have tried both plugging straight from the modem into my pc and from then from the modem -> router -> pc router to no avail.
