Hey,
I recently installed a new graphics card and it works perfectly with my system, yet when i start a (intense) game my PC starts a humming/buzzing noise. When i Alt-tab out of the game it stops only when the game is running directly it happens. I also noticed that if i look at an area in the game where there isn't allot happening (the sky) it reduces drastically. I have tightened the screw in the case just to be sure. And the card should be compatible with my PC (as i said it works perfectly apart from the game sound) i also get strange noises through my headphones if plugged in with the jack-plug. Some help would be appreciated

Solution
What graphics card do you have?

Put a paper tube to your ear and verify that the buzz is coming from the graphics card.

I have heard that some GTX970 cards have a "coil whine" noise.

Have you removed the case and looked to see if it's coming from somewhere like the GPU, or could it be the fans. I'd try and isolate the problem that way. Also is it only when the headphones are plugged in? May be from some sort of interference there. Something not being grounded correctly too may be cause too from seeing similar posts in the these forums.

I removed the case checked all my fans and none of them were hitting something. I listened closely whilst it was running with an open case and sadly could not locate the precise location it may be of some connection with the motherboard itself as i can hear the noise from the side the mother board is on. It makes this sound with and without headphones and it is not related to my speakers or headphones whatsoever as i have tried turning the speakers off and the sound continued.

It is indeed a Gtx970 it would be strange for this to be normal though

I have seen other instances of 970 coil whine now and i do think i can safely say this is also the case with my card. I guess i can overlook it. and if not maybe i can contact the place i bought it from and see if they can help me

Seems like the coil whine is due to R22 inductors on the GPU and the way it interacts with the PSU. It also mentions trying to make FPS <= Hz rate of monitor (in game or with MSI Afterburner). I'm assuming the more intensive the game is on the GPU the more it draws power. Would be good if someone drew up a table of 970 cards / PSU's pairs and rated the coil whine, so consumers could make an informed choice for their build.
