Hybrid Crossfire/SLI Question

I'm trying to run 2 monitors (22" acer LCDs P221W and X223W) and the TV nearby. I ran this exact setup on my previous computer and I stole the GPU from it. Radeon 5770 with my old Phenom II x3 (unlocked 4th core etc etc) BE. I had one of the VGA's hooked up to the onboard and the HDMI/VGA hooked up to the 5770. Extended mode for the monitors and duplicated Monitor 1 and the HDTV.

Now with my new rig and old graphics card i'm having trouble replicating the monitor/tv settings.

I've tried changing the bios to use the discreet & the onboard but it doesn't seem to work. I can't run all 3 monitors (2 moni+hdtv) on the 5770 without an active display port (so i've read) and if I cannot get this running without the adapter then I was planning to buy this one sometime this week.

SO...Is it possible to make "hybrid" SLI/crossfire work or must I go the adapter route?

To my knowledge it is not possible for a hybrid set up with ATI and Nvidia cards working together. Your best bet is to get an adapter.

You don't explain even WHY you are trying to do this so it's hard to help. You sort of do but I can't quite follow you.

Are you trying to GAME in Crossfire with the HDTV as an extended screen?

You also mention SLI but make no mention of any NVidia cards so it's quite confusing.

SLI and Crossfire are for combining two or more GPU's to get more gaming performance.

*If you are just trying to run three screens, and a single HD5770 can only handle two of them, then:
1) Install both HD5770's
2) Do NOT use Crossfire
3) Hookup two of your screens to one card
4) Hookup the third screen to the second card
5) If you use a normal HDMI input for the HDTV you would configure that in the "HDTV" settings of the Catalyst Control Panel (i.e. 1080p_NTSC60)

6) Your iGPU might also work fine for one of the screens. I'm not sure why you had issues.

Having both work has nothing to do with hybrid cf. Asus mobos just have issues so make it more difficult to have both on. Make sure igpu multi monitor is on. If this isn't working you need to install both drivers which means setting whichever to primary install that driver, then reboot switch to the other gpu and install that driver. You may need to only have 1 monitor in for you to do this. Many asus users are still unable to get both to work but I have yet to see any other mobo manufacturer have any issue with just putting all the monitors in and it just works.

I think it's probably best to:
1) disable the iGPU in BIOS
2) Install both HD5770's and split your screens between them (again, not Crossfire)

Other than the title...
Plus, I told him he appeared confused on what Crossfire/SLI was and explained how things worked. Really I was just waiting for him to reply.

I do however now realize he probably just has a single HD5770. I inferred he had two of them by how he was discussing Crossfire.

Regardless, I did give him an answer though maybe I should change that if he has only one card.

You can add a third monitor easily with an inexpensive HD6450 or similar. No need for an adapter. As long as you have a PCIe slot. This one is $10 after rebate:

Somehow it lost my lengthy answer but I used the term hybrid crossfire because I read a long time ago that making both the onboard GPU and discrete cards both functioning was hybrid crossfire. If that is wrong then yeah im way off base on the title. I do only have 1 5770. I'm using this setup so I can watch video files on my TV and duplicated on monitor 1 so (my gf) can easily navigate the menus with the wireless mouse.

I do play some games and just kept the 5770 because im trying to pay for other toys right now. Wow runs decent on it, shooters I play are old so it works just fine. a 54xx would be an issue in framerates & also I dont see how it would alleviate not powering 3 monitors.

I appreciate the help and sorry if I have a small term incorrect but just trying to figure out A) is the adapter necessary or B) Do I need to spend more time attempting with drivers/etc to get current setup running.

Haven't been on my home rig since I made the original post, I will try it when I get home from work. Appreciate all the responses and this reply explaining why they were suggesting the additional card. I imagine the onboard gfx is pretty competitive with a 5450 card and wouldn't draw the extra power. Don't think i'd have much trouble with the 620W PSU & 5770 + 5450 though. It is a cheaper way and I do have the space so I appreciate the suggestions.
