Hi all
I have a question regarding the Hybrid button on the rear of seasonic x range as the manual has little to say on this.
I presume if I am using my Pc for intensive gaming or video editing the fanless mode should be set to off ?
Regarding mounting the Psu,
I personally feel this statement from seasonic is vague,
" Depending on the type of computer case, correct mounting of the power supply will result with the fan side top cover facing the mainboard."
This not very instructive, a manual should not leave you guessing.
I have read a lot of great feedback on Seasonics psu's however from time to time you hear that one is making a high pitched noise or has packed up. Could it be that these are the unfortunates who have mounted the fan the wrong way resulting in fans fighting each other within the case? I have mounted my fan facing up facing the cooler fingers crossed,,.

Yes.

It isn't vague. If the PSU is top mounted, then the fan side will face the motherboard. If it's bottom mounted, then it will face the bottom of the case.

Well my case PSU is bottom mounted but my Psu fan is facing up,, I looked at a lot of pictures of completed self builds using hybrid psu,s on line before doing this
as like yourself I thought the other way round would be correct .I am waiting to hear from Seasonic regarding this matter.

There's only one way to mount the PSU and it's dictated by the case manufacturer. Most bottom mounted PSU's pull air from the uderside of the case, but yours was designed differently. I presume that it doesn't have a bottom filter.

my case is a fractual R4 it has bottom vent and filter and this is basically a redundant feature with this PSU on board. I have been told these hybrid fans like the higher end corsairs take advantage of this method of airflow. I will take a look at my temps and let you know thank you.

For your PSU to run in the quietest manner possible, you have the orientation correct. Here is why; You want your fan opening toward the open part of the computer - this allows existing case airflow to go through the PSU to help dissipate heat so the PSU's fan doesn't have to do any work (at least not as much)
BTW, the is no such thing as up or down to the PSU - it doesn't care one way or another, you'll notice on almost all PSU's that the label/marking is/are inverted on the opposite side
