HyperX Cloud Stinger mic not working, speakers recognized as mic

My HyperX Cloud Stinger mic is not working, and I think it's because the speakers are being recognized by the computer as the microphone (no sound is picked up when speaking into mic, but maxed out when playing audio). How do I fix this?

I should also add that I'm connecting the headset via a USB to Audio/Mic dongle through a USB 3.0 hub. I don't have audio/mic jacks built in.

The only thing I could think of is that you have your 3.5mm plugs plugged in to each other's ports.

I definitely don't. In fact, one thing I tried was switching the plugs and then no mic was picked up at all.

Perhaps the mic mute button is broken? Maybe the mic itself is broken?
