[SOLVED] HyperX Fury RAM upgrade causing Asus Z87i-Pro to no longer boot

Hello everyone,

I decided to upgrade my PC as it's not had much love since I built it in 2013. Among other things, I upgraded the RAM from 2x 4Gb Crucial Ballistix DDR 1600Mhz to 2x 8Gb HyperX Fury 1866MHz. Unfortunately my PC refuses to boot with the RAM installed.

Are they incompatible? Or will some tinkering fix it?

My mobo is compatible with:
2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2600(O.C.)/2500(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600/1333 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

Have I made a mistake by buying stock 1866MHz? I thought the Mobo supported 1866MHz but while troubleshooting I read that if the Mobo lists a RAM compatibility as O.C. it only applies to overclocked RAM. I struggled to find corroboration for this statement, and in actual fact found a few websites (PC Part Picker and digitech.ch) that stated this RAM should be compatible with the Z87i-Pro.

In my BIOS i can enable XMP, or manually specify the RAM settings. Could anyone tell me where I could find the settings to use? Or even just tell me that it's futile so I can return the RAM?

I would do a clear CMOS, if you haven't done one yet

1. Power off the computer and unplug the power cord
2. take out the RAM sticks
3. Take out the small battery from your motherboard
4. wait 4 - 5 minutes
5. put back your new RAM

try to boot
If this fail try with only one new RAM stick in slot 2

Make sure the RAM is inserted in the proper slots from your motherboard manual. What BIOS version are you using on that board at the moment? "Memory Compatibility" is often added with BIOS updates.

I tried this but sadly it did not improve things. Thanks though.

BIOS is 1004. RAM is in proper slots yeah, its only a mini ITX so there are only two DIMM sockets.

For anyone that comes across this thread here is what worked for me.

I managed to get it to boot to BIOS using the memOK button on my motherboard, and from there I switched the memory to Auto instead of using XMP.
