Hello,can you erase or format DVD R disc? if so how please

How can I make a DVD-R un-readable (securely prevent data access)? I have read that physically breaking it is bad for the environment, and putting it in the microwave seems dangerous.

You can buy shredders that can handle cd/dvd's, or you can spend some time with a screwdriver scorring them. Don't try breaking them as you may injure yourself, they tend to splinter like glass.

An electric sander with coarse sand paper works well also !
