Hi ,
I just bought a new nvme SSD 2tb (samsung 980 pro) and after I installed it my pc wont work , i cant get to the windows or even the bios , just a black screen
My gpu rgb and fans are working fine
my cpu rgb working but fans are not

I tried removing the new m.2 ssd and start the system again but nothing changed

I also tried updating to the newest available bios using flashback While the new nvme is removed but it still wont work

i should also mention , while i was removing my gpu to install the nvme , i used a screw to help open up the lock but the screw slipped and hit my motherboard, could it be the cause of the problem?

My specs

MB:Asus ROG strix B550F gaming wifi
Bios:BIOS 3002(after i used my flashback , i don't know the previous version sadly)
CPU:AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
Storage: SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2 2280 1TB (my OS drive , windows 10 pro)
GPU:GIGABYTE EAGLE OC GeForce RTX 4080
RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
PSU: corsair 850w gold

any help would be much appreciated

Hey there,

So were there any other drives connected when you did the install on the new SSD?

If your old OS was on another drive, and you installed Windows on to the new SSD, did you disconnect the old drive before first boot?

If not, the boot record will point to another drive and the system won't boot. You may have to reinstall Windows with no drives connected upon first boot. Once done, reconnect the old drive.

It's possible to rebuild the boot order with Command prompt, but I don't know how to do it myself.

@SkyNetRising might be able to help.

yeah my OS drive was connected , once i plugged my new nvme drive my pc wont even boot ,at first i thought the new nvme was the issue but even after i removed it my pc still wont start , i cant even get to the bios menu 🙁
note : i added the new drive as an upgrade , not to replace my old one.

post a picture of motherboard where screw hit it alos i did use a similar nmve on my new build and use the second m2 slot for it also do you have a exact copy of your os on it from board link should have work with old bios .
this is the site of the scratch, right next to the GPU PCI slot , i dont think there is any visible damage however i did accidentally scratch it with a bit of force.

the new nvme is same as my OS nvme model , except i has more storage . it does make sense not to require bios update but i did it anyway cause i reached a dead end.

also the second pic is the look of my PC after i press the ON button . GPU fans working fine . rest of the system fans and RGB not working
