I am planning to buy a hp-15 s series laptop. I am confused there are two laptops with the same configuration only difference is i3 4010u and i5 4210u.. The i5 version costs 5.5k more.. I am a student so generally need the laptop for programming stuff no gaming. I will use it for the next 5 years.

Thanks in advance
Regards Mayank

Solution
Actually this I3- 4210 U supports hyper threading so that's not quite right .
the I5 is a better chip for one and pretty much only one reason the CPU can turbo .

the stock speed of the i3 and the i5 you have linked are both at 1.7 GhZ but the I5 can on request be forced to run at 2.7 GHZ when the system calls for more processor performance .

It will do this this at the cost of power use ( so doesn't do this unless plugged in or you override the settings)

I was in the same situation and I bought an i3, is quite enought for me, but i have to admit that after trying other laptos with i5 you kind of miss that performance. I bought an SSD for my laptop and it make difference.

If you have money enought I recomend the i5 ..... but if you are really in a budget and need to spend your money in other stuff, dont worry about it, i3 performance is quite enought. But think that 5 years is quite a lot of time, and you will spend a lot of time with your laptop working, maybe the extra amount of money that you will spend means nothing for 5 years of use!!

1st thing is budget. if u are enough to i5 then go with it because u r going to use till 5 years after that u will also get nice resale values and if u not enough for budget then go with i3. its chaper than i5.

2nd thind is technical view.
obviously i5 supirior then i3 in term of processing and power consumation and lot more.

and your student and going to use for programming then i3 is quit good choice because it almost run c,c++,java,Ms visual 2010,2013 smoothly.

now its depends on u.
