I am building a PC at the moment but not sure what to do with GPU

I planned to get 1080 ti but the new gen card is coming out soon and I been thinking to get 1060 6gb or even 1070 instead and then upgrade to newest in near future. Opinions?

Depends what you intend to play and at which resolutions and monitor, 1080 is probably too much for most games anyway. 1070Ti would probably be quite enough.

I would grab something cheap from ebay like a GTX 970 or GTX 780 to keep you going until the new cards are out.

with i7 8700k it wouldn't work

What resolution/refresh? Might be enough to get current gen and not upgrade.
