I am building a pc for the first time! What's your opinion on these components?

Hi guys,

I’m new to building pcs and I wanted your opinion on the following parts that I have chosen for my rig.

(note: I have no plans for overclocking right now)

Intel i5 6500 3.2ghz/3.6ghz turbo
G. skill aegis 8gb 288-pin 2400 ddr4 RAM
Gigabyte g1. sniper b7 intel b150 socket 1151 motherboard
Seagate barracuda 1tb 7200rpm sata 3.0
Gigabyte GeForce gtx 960 windorce 4gb graphic card
Lcd fhd 1080p*1920p 20-25" 1-5ms 120/144hz refresh rate (used)

There is no case and psu in the list above as I have yet to choose them.
Also these components require 280 watts so psu of how much watts do you recommend?

Second off, it would be most helpful if you gave us a budget to work with. Then we can see if we can squeeze in more performance depending on that number.

lol! ok😀. my budget is 1000$ in total , these parts which exclude psu and case cost me around 750$ in my country.

I would change a lot with it if you have that high of a budget, but to start what country are you in? Also, there is an "incompatibility" in your current build., but that won't matter atm until I know where you can get your parts.

1$=105rs in my country

Only one of those links were valid domains, beegeek is shutting down so that left me to search on shophive, which quite frankly has a terrible selection to pick from. I couldn't find any seasonic PSUs on that site, so if you found and can snag that s12 I would go for it. Do you have any other sites you are familiar in shopping with? Or any stores you could go to to pick up the parts?

I couldn't find any seasonic PSUs on that site, so if you found and can snag that s12 I would go for it. Do you have any other sites you are familiar in shopping with? Or any stores you could go to to pick up the parts?

and what do you think about the case Cooler Master FORCE 500 it comes with a 500 watt psu as well and according to pcpartpicker.com it's compatible with my pc

Well, I see why you paired that mb, (which is good btw I wouldn't change it looking at the prices of the others) with that ram. Reason I say that is the current ram you have would be downclocked anyway to this stick's speed, since you mb doesn't support anything faster than ddr4 2133. Plus it is also cheaper, and you could probably buy two of them to get 16gb of ram if you so decided.

Other than that, gc's are ridiculously more expensive on those sites, the only one to have any type of decent card was czone. If you really wanted, bumping up to the gtx 970 would be a gigantic leap in performance over the 960, and it looked to be only $100 more. Or you could go with a 390, which seemed to be just as much more as well, both fantastic choices. As for a psu, jesus, your selection is slim pickings. I hated everyone of those psu's I saw on each site, all of them low tier corsair! The only tier 1 psu's I saw were the RMx and HXi series, which is WAY above the wattage you would need for each of those cards. If you want something around the 5-600w range your only choice is the cs or vs series! Both of which are tier 3 psu's! I don't know where you saw that seasonic, but wherever it is go hang on to that for dear life. It's a good quality tier 2ish psu, and it's your best bet for what other options your stuck with. Just out of curiousity, can you link me where you found that seasonic?

Never, ever, ever, ever purchase a cases with a built in power supply. Those are among the worst you can buy. Seasonic is light years ahead of a built in PSU on a case.

I agree with your ram and i'll check gtx 970
and don't worry about the psu because i live in Lahore and lahore has the biggest market in Asia for computer components,laptops,electronics etc. Seasonic may be hard to find online but I'll get for sure from there.

Just to second the comments on cases with bundled PSUs: if you see one, run as fast as you can. Using one of those is an amazing way of killing all your hardware.

But slightly less exuberantly: the PSU is one part where you do not, ever, want to skimp on quality. A good one will last you several builds, save power, and make your PC more reliable. A bad one will cause unnecessary wear on your components (due to bad voltage regulation, excessive voltage ripple, and so on), and usually lack most protection circuits that might save the rest of your PC in case of a power surge or PSU death. Heck, a really bad one might make your PC unstable in daily usage.

For your build, a 400W unit would be fine, 500W perfect. Unfortunately, as has been noted, the linked stores didn't really have anything good to choose from in that range. If you can get the Seasonic mentioned earlier in the thread, it should be a solid choice. Both the 430 and 500W variants of it should suit your needs nicely (unless you get a non-stock GTX 970 that requires an 8-pin PCIe power connector, in which case you need the 500W).
