I am going to Build a Box to put my Computer Case Inside, Need some help with fans.

I've built three wooden computer cases so far, for friends... cases is an understatement since they are desks which house computers. No pictures though since I took the ideas from people on the Internet which posted the plans and I just used those plans.. Not my Creations just my handy work so no pictures needed.

Recently I decided to do crossfire on my computer and I found out that having multiple GPU's in your aging Storm Scout Case makes for a REALLY loud game play experience. Originally I thought there was a jet outside my house and then I realized it was my computer.

Anywhoots, I am going to build a generic wooden box with sound proofing in it to put my case in (it won't be a case itself, because I don't want to buy the mounts and so forth... I do however need to vent the wooden box I am making, hence I will need fans... Can you buy PC Fans that don't rely on being connected to a PSU? What should I look for?

Why am I doing this instead of buying a $140 silent case, or aftermarket GPU coolers to tie into my Watercooling-- you wonder? Decor, the wooden box I am making will look very nice in my room after I get my wife to do some snazzy paintjob on it (I am thinking Dragons and a Castle.. nerdy stuff!). On the upside, I can stick any case in it, in the future if I do upgrade.. heck I could even gift it to someone else if I do decide to get a silent case.

No explanation necessary. I too have put my pc case inside a cabinet unit with 2 doors on the front. I have screwed an inlet fan on the back of the cupboard where I have a pipe drawing in cold air from outside the house. Yes, I actually drilled a hole in the wall to suck in cold external air directly into my pc case onto the gfx card area. My fans run from a spare molex from the psu simply routed out from a spare card slot outlet. I have outlet fans from rear of case and psu piped away to remove heat too. This makes for a quiet setup when the doors to the cupboard are closed and a nice cool box for gaming.

My setup doesnt really allow for much tinkering around the back of the case as its all plumbed into the cabinet.

Spare molex is always a good option but if you are sure youll remember to turn it on, you could power the cabinet fans off a 12v powerblock easily enough

I have no more cords left on my power supply, I'ved used every one besides the sata cables. Meep. Further Explanation at the Bottom.

I will look into this 12v powerblock, I'd leave it on all the time.

I just noticed that Microcenter has an OpenBox, Nanoxia DeepSilence 5 ATX Case for sale for $60. I may go and buy that 40 lbs juggernaught before I build the cabinet/box... After I talked to my wife about it, she decided I should just build an entire desk.. but even if I build a deskcase, I would still like to have fans on it that don't rely on the power supply so this all helps.

Google shazim mohammed, he built à tasty desk a couple of years back and I worked on the design with him so that'd be a nice project to be involved in, I'll link a block or two like I mean tomorrow, I use one to power hard drives I recover
