Well last month I got a new case, cpu heatsink, and a ssd to upgrade my pc a bit, but after getting everything setup and running my then at the time gpu decides to start acting up and randomly drop my signal to monitor. I thought it may be a connection or maybe a bad pci slot on the mobo or anything other than my gpu, but I tried an old one and it worked...

So I go ahead and in the mean time decide to just upgrade to a 780 ti cause I was impatient and tax return time. well it gets here and works fine for a good 4 weeks, but last night it dropped the signal to my pc a couple times, and had weird red lines all over the screen I could get into bios but not boot windows... I put in the old card again and everything works! from what I can tell... I really dont know if this is a gpu thing I mean the first one just goes bad outta nowhere and now a brand new 780 ti just does too? I am just at a loss as to what is happening and I do not have another pc to try these cards in. If anyone has experienced this or has any ideas on what I can do to figure out why this is happening? if you need any info just ask and here are my specs...

win7 home 64bit, OS
amd fx 7850 (never oc'd), cpu
asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0, mobo
16gb kingston hyper x, ram
1000w coolmax psu
240g hyper x ssd
1tb WD hhd
nzxt kraken x60
1st gpu was a ASUS HD 7850 2gb
the replacement I used and am currently using since my 780 ti is now not working is a Hd3870

Any help or advice with my issue would greatly be appreciated

Solution
That old 3870 barely stresses your PCIe slot so if it were your motherboard then the 3870 wouldn't necessarily reveal it--the fact that the other two video cards aren't working really tells me that it's your motherboard.

Either that or your PSU is starting to fail and can't deliver enough power.
yea I keep a preety clean pc no visable dust on the mobo or new 780 ti, I have also tries it in the other pci slots, any chance the psu isn't enough? or is it possible for the mobo to let the older gpu run fine but these newer higher end gpus could be causing a conflict?

That PSU is definitely Overkill, that doesn't mean it couldn't be going bad though...
And uhh what CPU do you have? FX7850 isn't a CPU.
A 7850 is a type of Radeon GFX card though.

This is a rough guess of what your system looks like:
Part List
CPU
AMD FX-6350 $138.97
Motherboard
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 $164.00
Memory
Kingston 16GB $163.74
Storage
A-Data 240GB SSD $254.23
Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM $88.98
Video Card
EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti $729.99
Total: $1539.91
Estimated Wattage: 491W

Add maybe 20% onto the recommended wattage and thats how much of a PSU you need. So... 589.2 = 600W~ PSU

OMG lol huge typo there on the cpu lol, sorry been kinda "freaking" out. Fx 8350 is what I got, yea I really thought the psu was enough but just wasn't super sure, I personally wanna think its the mobo, but just wish I could be 100% before I go weeks with nothing for nothing. and the fact that this old gpu pops in and runs just fine is driving me crazy and telling me its not the mobo.

[strike]I'm willing to suspect it's your graphics card. It should still fall under warranty (i hope) get in contact with the manufacturer.[/strike]

Nevermind I thought both old graphics cards worked, I'd be willing to bet it's a motherboard issue then... or a power supply issue >_> but....

Well just got my new fx990 killer mobo and sure enough ITS STILL BROKE! so just wasted 150 bucks for nothing, so thats awesome. this is absolutely retarded that a gpu goes out in a couple of weeks at most... this was my first High-end gpu and all it ended up being is a 700$ paper weight.
