I am having a very strange problem with my PC.

My on board sata controller is not reading my 5TB hard drive properly anymore but my PCI Sata controller reads it just fine. Is it time to replace my motherboard?

I recently ran into two problems 1)Low wattage for my old power supply(has been replaced) and 2)my 5tb hard drive being read like it's dying(not reading most of the data, crashing when accessed, I/O errors, errors saying folders can't be accessed). I thought the problem were my sata cables so I ordered some new ones but I also ordered 2 new hard drives just in case my drive was dead.. So I got those in the mail yesterday, installed everything correctly but I notice strange problems with the new hard drives now. When setting up my new hard drives in Windows Disk Management I see that my 4TB WD Blues are being read as 2TB(both of them), so I restart my PC and go into the drives and they both are read as 4TB as they should.

So back in windows(Windows 7 64 btw)I go googling for my problem and found that I would have to change the MBR in DM to GPT, so I do that and the drive size shoots up to 3725.90, so I am like "Ok..." because I know some BS was right around the corner, conversion to GPT done and now to create a new simple volume(only option), there volume created now for the mandatory formatting of the drive....and here we go again, so when hitting the quick format this is where things took a bad turn as the drive wouldn't format at all, actually, what it did to is cause my PC to lag to an uncontrollable state while it was formatting. So after about let's say 30 minutes of formatting I get the message "Windows was unable to complete format" So after that I remember that I have an old Raid Controller in one of my PCi slots so I hook the old hard drive and one of the new hard drives up to it. First, the old hard drive, the old hard drive worked perfectly, like nothing ever happened to it but when hooked to mobo sata it was giving off the symptoms of death, the new hard drive wasn't so lucky though as it had the same problem as it did on the mobo sata, couldn't format it, even tried the raid controller option of low level format but it stayed at 0% forever.

So here I am trying to figure out what to do, do I send the hard drives back for replacements? Do I need to shop for a new motherboard? Do I do both? Any help with this situation is appreciated.
