I am looking for a game similar to Civilization.... Resource
gathering, production and empire building along the lines of
Civilization.

Any suggestions?

Alpha Centauri (With the Alien Crossfire expansion preferably) is a
very good one. An old one that was good if you can get it to run is
Master of Magic. Also Master of Orion 2.

So there _was_ an English version! That's been bugging me for years. I
had the Japanese version, which was called "Civizard". An excellent
game. The way the spells interacted with the tactical battles was very
nice.
