Hi guys,

I am helping my brother buy a gaming PC and found this one for a really good price for what we typically pay in South Africa. The PC costs R9 500 ZAR or $703,88 USD.

Here are the details for the PC:

* i5-6400 3.30Ghz.
- 4Cores/4Threads.
- 6M Smart Cache.
- 6th Generation Socket 1151.

* COOLER MASTER GTS V8 Extreame Gaming Cpu Cooler the biggest and best Aircooler on the Market.
- Very very Big and best Performance.

* 16GB DDR4 2400mHz Ram.

* Msi Z170i Gaming Pro Motherboard.
- Supports 6th and 7th Gen i7 Cpus.
- Built in Wifi.
- Built in Bluetooth.
- M.2 Sata Onboard Support.
- Latesr Overclocking Bios Loaded.
- Usb 3.1
- Sata 6 Onboard.
- Hdmi,Vga and Dvi Onboard Display outputs.
- And allot more Futures.
- Brand new Motherboard with box and accessories.

* ASUS CERBERUS Geforce GTX1050Ti 4GB.
- GDDR5.
- DirX12 Etc...
- Still new Under 3 year warentee.Box with Accessories.

* NZXT S340 Gaming Case.Brand new.

* RaidMax 530W Blue Led Fan PowerSupply.
- Clip on Cable Management.
- Supports 2 Graphic Cards.

* 3× RGB Fan and Lighting Installed.

* Latest Win10 Pro64 bit loaded with all software installed.

I have a build with a AMD FX 8300 3.30 8 Core CPU and MSI 970 GTX 4GB OC Edition. I just don't want him to buy something that will disappoint and he loves my setup.

Thanks

It's hard to say without knowing the South African market all that well, but that's an extremely low-quality power supply that I would not put in a rig. They brand a lot of very low-quality Andysons with low-end Chinese capacitors, so it's almost always recommended to stay away from Raidmax. Even on their better performing lines, they don't generally use high-quality capacitors.

Is there any way you could move to an AMD Ryzen or a Intel Coffee Lake based system? Skylake and Kaybe lake based platforms are completely obsolete at this point. They were made obsolete by Ryzen, they have very limited upgrade potential, if he plans on upgrading it in the future, he doesn't have much of anywhere to go with that platform. I don't know much about pricing or availability in South Africa, but what about an AM4 board with a Ryzen 3 1200 or Ryzen 3 2200G? I also second the idea of going for a nice power supply if possible.

The cpu and gpu are relatively well balanced.

But, I see some questionable choices.

Why a more expensive Z170 motherboard without an overclockable cpu?
Why a fancy cooler when the stock I5-6400 processor comes with a perfectly adequate cooler?
550w is reasonable if you plan on upgrading the graphics card, but, as above, the quality of the psu is suspect.

Lastly, if buying new for gaming, I would go with intel 8th gen for the higher clock rates.

Hi guys here is an idea of what I can get for the same price here in SA:

Intel 8th Generation Core i5-8400 (2.8GHz, 9MB Cache, 6x Cores, Turbo 4.0Ghz) CPU
MSI H310 PRO VD DDR4 LGA 1151 USB3.1 Intel 8th Gen Motherboard
MSI GTX 1050 OVERCLOCKED 2GB GDDR5 OC Edition DX12 Graphics Card
8GB DDR4 2666MHz High Performance Gaming RAM with Heat Spreader
500W 80+ High Performance Power Supply
120GB SSD Upto 500MB/s + Speed Ultra-Fast Solid State Drive (OS DRIVE)
EVETECH VYBE V2 Clear Side Panel GAMING CASE
4x 120mm White LED Fans
Integrated 8 CH HD Sound Card

OR

AMD RYZEN 5 2600 (3.4GHz, 19MB Cache, 12x Cores, Turbo 3.9GHz) CPU
MSI B350 PC MATE GAMING AM4 DDR4 USB3.1 RYZEN Motherboard
MSI GEFORCE GT 1030 2GB OC EDITION DirectX12 Graphics Card
8GB DDR4 2666MHz High Performance Gaming RAM with Heat Spreader
250GB SSD Upto 500MB/s + Speed Ultra-Fast Solid State Drive (OS DRIVE)
500W 80+ High Performance Power Supply
EVETECH VYBE V2 Clear Side Panel GAMING CASE
4x 120mm White LED Fans

The thing is I can get this PC from a guy who gets the parts dirt cheap and then builds PC's for fun and then sells them lower than any other retailer we have.

And this is one of his latest setup's that he just completed. My brother can wait a bit but just thought this might be a really good deal if you look at the above setup for the same price.
