I have a strange problem.
I took a ISP connection. My package claims that I would get 300kbps UL/DL
with this package. Ok. Good. I started it first day.
I connected to one server in my office. I connected to another server at my
friends house. Then I downloaded one file from one server at one time. I
again got max 60k bps. I downloaded same file from another server. I got max
60 kbps as DL speed.I now started downloading same file from both server at
the same time.
I was hoping that when I download same size file from both servers at the
same time, I would atleast got 120 kbps. because my ISP claims that I am
entitled to 300kbps DL. I expected that since I have 300kbps DL speed
capability, so this 300kbps would be consumed or divided almost equally
between both the downloading processes but I could hardly reach 60 kbps
combined. So, in fact, I can reach 60 kbps at max as combined downloading
capability.

I have started to feel that could it be some settings in windows xp pro
which has to increased or something like that.

I searched all discussion groups, but couldnt find satisfactory answer.

Appreciate help.

What kind of connection are you talking about exactly?
DIAL-UP?
ISDN?
DSL?
CABLE?
SATELLITE?
Who is the ISP?

It is possible that the server that is hosting the file you
are downloading is limited to some speed. Try another file
from another source. Also, run the checks at
www.pcpitstop.com to get a better idea about your system and
the actual connection.

Also, your ISP may be lying to you or the connection may be
defective.

Example.. if two computers connect peer to peer and both are capable of high
speed, the resultant exchange of data will be fast.. if one of them is on
dialup, the exchange will be slow.. a system is only as good as its weakest
link..

I have Cable based connection
ISP is HTV in finland

I also tried to experiment using my linux OS which is in second partition
and there as well, I can hardly reach 60 kbps as combined speed when I
download from different sources.

Is there any settings pertaining to tcp-ip that i need to do in windows
registery to speed up ?

My computer doesnt have any spyware. Its complete clean so far.
I checked running processes and all of them either windows specific or my
anti virus related.

Pl. help.

If you're getting the same speed from both Windows and Linux, it's a
hardware problem, an ISP problem, or the site you're downloading from isn't
capable of sending the data any faster. None of those are going to be fixed
by fiddling with Windows files.

Clarify something for me - what are you paying for a 3Mbps connection (in
which case you should be downloading at around 300kps) or a 300kps
connection (in which case your download speed should be around 30kps)?

There are two factors involved in determining your download speed, what your
computer is capable of and how fast the server can deliver. If the server
is only supplying 60 kbps then that's the best you'll get from that server.

Thanks. I believe, my ISP seems to be faking me.

Download NetStatLive free from www.analogx.com It will show
you a real time read-out of the up and download speeds
you're getting.
