i am using dell with original windows 8 installed. but i dont have the window cd. things i only have is the product key and the product id. if i format the laptop, will i again be able to install the original windows 8 with the product key and id? or will i have to buy again a new windows 8 ? if i can use the present windows, then what required things or steps to be done?

Windows 8 comes with a restore partition.

Slide mouse to lower right corner to bring up charms menu.
Settings -> Change PC Settings -> Update and Recovery -> Recovery -> Remove everything and Reinstall Windows.

You also have the option to create a bootable USB installation flash drive. Typically you need a 8 or 16 GB flash drive, though I've heard of one system needing at least 20 GB. You will want to do this if you want to delete the restore partition (usually to free up space if you have a small SSD).

It's possible that your OEM copy of windows has the ability to create a Windows Restore Disk... look for that if it didn't come with DVD of Windows. Some vendors have that or have a separate partition hidden on your computer with Windows on it for reinstalling or restoring a crashed computer.
