i am wondering why cant i overclock my gpu

hi i am wondering why on msi afterburner or evga Precision whatever i put the slider to and hit apply nothing happens no fps difference in games no driver problems even when i put the core slider on msi afteburner to 845 and the memory to 1560 which is the max i can put it ? does this mean my gpu is impossible to overclock? or is it because it is already factory overclocked

my pc specs are
cpu intel core 2 duo e4400 @2.00ghz

mainboard foxconn 745 7mc series

memory 2 x1gb corsair ddr2 333mhz

graphics card Galaxy gtx 275 896mb overclocked

hard drives
western digital 160gb sata

I haven't done gpu overclocking, but I would think it would work best to use overclocking tools provided by your particular gpu vendor. It's also possible that your cpu is bottlenecking the games, in which case overclocking the gpu wouldn't help any.

ive used xtreme tuner by galaxy but it didnt do anything its strange that i dont get any driver not responding problems
when the sliders are on max

First, try running GPU-Z to see if it recognizes the higher clock speeds. According to one review I found, it should be possible to overclock that video card (further than the factory OC) using EVGA Precision Tuner, though pushing the sliders to the max could give you stability problems.

Also, that doesn't rule out the possibility of cpu bottleneck. To check for that, run the Windows Task Manager and put it on the "Performance" tab, then play your game for a few minutes and exit. If the "CPU Usage History" graph shows that both cores stayed at or very close to 100% while playing, there's a high probability you've got a cpu bottleneck. Alternatively, try reducing the screen resolution and/or AA settings that the game runs at. If your fps remains the same, you've got a cpu bottleneck. A cpu bottleneck could also explain the lack of driver not responding problems (or other signs of instability), because the gpu wouldn't be running at full load.

It might also help if you list the games you're playing and the fps you're seeing in them.

I think youre right about the bottleneck as i was plaiyng metro 2033 and when open task manager it was on 97% the games i play are : Metro 2033 min 24 max 71 avg 40.217 normal settings
aliens vs predator min 19 max 74 avg 32.553normal settings
Need for speed most wanted 2013 min 14 max 27 avg 21.067 high settings
the fps were given by fraps benchmarks and yes cpu z and gpu z both show the higer clock speeds when applied and aski9ng if you would be able to tell me if they are any cpu which would stop the bottleneck for my mobo support page is http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=Motherboard&U=en-us0000220 im not to good on cpus thanks for your help in advance. edit - ive previously have an e6300 (sold as wasent very good )

I'm sorry, but I don't think there is any cpu supported by that mobo that can eliminate the bottleneck. The cpu support list doesn't include any quad-core cpus, the 945G chipset was released in 2005, and the E4400 was released in 2007, so they're obsolete now. The games you listed were released in 2010-2012, so I'm not surprised your system struggles to run them. The gtx 275 released in 2009, so it's not quite so bad, but it's still time to think about replacing it if you can afford it.

i havent got the money yet il save up and when i get enough,new mobo and cpu and if i struggle finding a good combo il come here thanks again for all your help
