I an eGPU safe? or does it even work?

I was recently going to put together a Gaming PC, when I came to the idea of an eGPU.

my laptop is the Lenovo W520 with an intel core i7-2760QM and integrated Nvidia Quadro 1000M

My question is..
does it even work?

will it deliver the same performance? or will that port tray the graphics card is on bottleneck it?

SEVERE BOTTLENECK using that method.

You'd really need a high bandwidth connection like THUNDERBOLT for this to work well.

Since QUADRO is a workstation GPU it's hard for me to estimate how that would work since a small bandwidth can give a big advantage for certain workstation applications.

You also aren't playing games so if you just want to boost applications that Quadro supports then YES that will help.

Also... you still need to POWER that graphics card. That connector is only for data. You could make a case and add an ATX power supply for fairly cheap, though not sure if you can buy one for a reasonable price (the case is the issue).

Thanks.... what if I do express to thunder bolt... then plug thunderbolt to the eGPU?
