A little background... My son has asked for Battlefront II for Christmas. We have an Xbox One, but no Live subscription, so he would be limited just to the campaign. It is my understanding that the PC version allows for multiplayer without any additional cost (Am I wrong?).

We have a five year old PC that I built from scratch with help from these forums. The specs are below. I assume I need a GPU to play Battlefront II? If so, can someone recommend a good budget GPU that would be compatible with the specs below. It doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, just needs to get the job done.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: Pareema 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
OS Drive: Crucial MX300 525GB SSD
Storage Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Power Supply: Corsair 430W ATX12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B DVD/CD Writer
Windows 10
Built 07/2012

Thanks,

Yes the PC version will allow multiplayer without the additional cost outside of the game. As for a card I'd recommend the GTX 1050 ti 4gb not only for Battlefront II but it will pair well with that system for other games.

battlefront II 2005 no the CPU can handle it
battlefront II 2017 yes indeed a GPU is needed.

I suggest a 1060 6Gb if at 1080p resolution

Hey Friend! First of all, you get some "cool dad" points right off the bat.

There are indeed no fees associated with online play for BF2 on PC (micro-transactions/loot box EA shenanigans aside). You'll absolutely need a dedicated GPU, but your base system looks good. The only thing that might be limiting is your PSU, in that you'll need to run an efficient card given the total wattage.

Not sure what your budget is, but assuming 200.00 is the max...I'd recommend the following:

EVGA GTX 1060 ACX 2.0 Single: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487263

If you want to spend less, the GTX 1050Ti is a decent choice. Also check out AMD's RX 570 and 560.

Unfortunately you how a middle end processor attached to a low end power supply. With all your accessories, you are running dangerously close to your 80% limit (344W) continuous draw to use a 1060 3GB. (~$210) If you overclock, you will definitely go over your power budget.

The best you are going to do is 1050ti or RX570 with moderate game settings at 1080p.
