Question I believe I’m being sent Potential Scam Emails from McAfee? Can Anyone Clarify

this isn’t really much to do with Windows 10 but it’s what I use regardless. anyway I can’t send screenshots of the emails at the moment but throughout the week I’ve been sent emails from “McAfee”. the names have been different both times; the first time the McAfee name had a weird font with a bell emoji on both sides. the second time the M was in a box, and the A was the red “A” emoji

anyway, both emails have slightly different attachments but they both say that my account may/will be removed today and that I will be unprotected unless I renew the subscription, which has large discount on it. they also both have a PDF file with a size of 150 bytes attached underneath the screenshots of the McAfee renewal page

this a phishing scam, correct? I do not believe I have McAfee on my pc, haven’t seen it in Control Panel, just MalwareBytes and ofc Windows Defender

Scam.

If you have not installed McAfee that is clue #1.

Being offered a "large discount" is clue #2.

And just to be sure take a closer look at what all is installed on your computer.

Check Task Manager and Task Scheduler for any references to McAfee.

Plus you can use Powershell to see all of the installed apps.

Use:

Get-AppxPackage –AllUsers

Run as administrator.

Could be a long list.....

"winget list" may be more convenient.

A real McAfee installation would not be hiding.
