Question I bought a CPU and noticed this "feature". Is this normal or should I be worried?

Is it a defect and does it affect the performance and thermal conductivity?

It feels like resin is not evenly distributed under the heatspreader

I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and a Ryzen 3 3200G with similar condition, in that there seem to be a bit of glue "leaking" out the gap between the PCB and the heatspreader. Bought brand new.

Never had any problems with performance or heat, and they two worked flawlessly for years (the Ryzen 5 is still running in my PC as we speak, or type). But if you're worried maybe you can return it and ask for another one.

The only way to know would be to install it, run some benchmarks, and see the temperature yourself.

No that's fine, it's just the glue that's used to attach the heat spreader. The application isn't always perfect, it would only be of concern had the IHS been tampered with. However if this is a new retail unit then no need for concern.

as long as its brand new, I don't see that being an issue you have the warranty.

absolutely fine. The head spreaders are just glued on. Even so I did a much better job gluing the head spreader back on after delidding my 8700k to give it the liquid metal treatment. LOL
