I have a PDF file on my laptop that I also emailed to myself and then saved to Files on my phone. When I open the PDF on my phone, I can search within the document for specific words. But when I open the document on my laptop, it doesn't work, it just says search results are 0. Any ideas?

What .pdf search apps are installed on phone and laptop?

Double check that the file format has remained .pdf or has not been corrupted in some manner.

Try other search criteria on the same laptop .pdf file - could be that the original search criteria had a typo or something. Maybe some logic error.

Create a short .pdf file on the laptop in the same folder used for the imported .pdf file.

Test a search on the created file.

Hi, just had another look at the file on the laptop. When I try to search for a word Adobe Acrobat says to Search for a word within a scan or image, i need to convert it using the Scan & OCR feature of Adobe Pro.
It's funny though, I don't have any special app downloaded on my iPhone that does that. I just saved the .pdf to the Files folder, went to it & opened it. I was able to search right from the get-go. So unless iOS has a built in feature that allows that? I don't know.
I could pay to upgrade my free Adobe to Adobe Pro to get that feature but I'm not doing that.
Maybe there's a free way to do the Scan & OCR conversion online. I haven't looked.

Would not be surprising if the free version has limited functionality.

The following Adobe link might prove helpfu.

https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/online/jpg-to-pdf.html

However, the starting point is .jpg file and if your scanned in files are a different format then the conversion process would be different.

Be very sure to backup and isolate any files to be converted. Then make conversion attempts etc. on expendable copies of the files.

Just in case.....
