I can see my external hard drive in My Computer but can't open it

Hello,
I cam trying to access my external hard drive but when I double click on its icon within My Computer it then comes up with a window asking me to 'choose the programme I want to use to open the file'! Please help!

Sounds like some malware got on your system and removed the file association for it. Try running malwarebytes. Once that is done, do a system restore to a point before this started happening.

What happens if you go to Start -> Run and type ...

explorer X:

... where X is the drive letter of your external drive?

Alternatively, go to Start -> Run and type ...

cmd

This will open a DOS window.

Now type ...

dir X:\ /s /p

The above command should list the files on your external drive.

Type Ctrl-Break or Ctrl-C to abort the listing, and type "exit" to return to the Windows GUI.

I have the same problem too.. I have tried the above steps and it shows The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable
