I cannot control the speed in which my exhaust fan spins

Hi everyone,

I have recently just installed 2 corsair AF fans into my case and the intake fan is plugged into the system fan 1 header on the motherboard and i can control the fan speed fine. The exhaust fan is plugged into the System fan 2 header but for some reason in the BIOS and on speed fan there is no option to monitor the rpm or change the fan speed so the fan is always running at 100% so my PC sound like a lawn mower. Im not sure why this is happening and i would greatly appriciate any responses. Also something else to mention is that when i put my hand over the fan the speed seems to slow down???

Thanks ! :) :)

I am going to answer this myself instead of removing this thread incase others have the same problem. First thing to do is to check if you have the fan plugged into a 4pin connector. Mine was in a 3 pin so the fan was spinning at 100% all of the time hence the noise. There are two solutions to this problem. You can either buy a cable which reduces the voltage sent to the fan so it will spin at 50% or you can buy a pwm fan splitter which allows you to control the speed of two fans just by using one header. Becuase i had 3 fans (2 intake 1 outake) i decided to buy two of the Akasa AK-CBFA04-15 PWM Fan Splitter Cable for 2 Fans and i daisy chained them which im turn made it able to control 3 fans with just 1 fan header!

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem!

I wouldnt put 3 fans on the same header. Current draw limitation... for sure check if you are not exceeding what the mobo can deliver (usually 1A).

also you can control 3 pin fan speed with DC if the mobo supports it. (4pin fans are controlled with PWM)

Where abouts can i find that because i have searched up my motherboard. Its the MSI A78M-E45
