I cannot get win.10 to run at 1440x900

my monitor is 1440 by 900 but I cannot get my gtx 960 or win.10 to actually run it at 1440x900. I am using vga with a vga to dvi-I converter. is there a way to get everything to run at my (2007 or 2009 I think) monitor??

Was this working at correct resolution previously with win 7 or 8 ?

I presume you have the correct graphics driver for your graphics (integrated or graphics card ) not the win 10 default display driver

taking vga out of graphics card dvi-i socket should be ok
But
Using a dvi-d digital to vga analogue converter box may have problems at some resolutions
