i cant connect to my wifi

device: laptop, windows 8, acer
wifi: frontier
my laptop is relitively brand new, it says that its connected fine, but my signal is very clearly not working without having a hard wire connected. without the hardwire i get pages failing to load in my brouser constantly as well as internet using video games such as steam, failing completely and going to offline mode. all of the others in my house get the wifi to run just fine at pretty much all times
